Halloween Re-Cap

I couldn't let Thanksgiving sneak up on me without remembering a few things about Halloween.  I have a growing collection of Halloween decorations and had fun displaying them this year.  My antique vanity in the foyer always gets dressed up for Halloween and this is what I came up with this year.

It's really simple but it looks pretty cute.  It's especially cute at night when I turn on the two antique lamps!

My dining table gets dressed for Halloween, as well.  It's always my favorite place to decorate for any season.  I try to come up with inexpensive ways to make it look festive for every season.  My glass hurricane jars always come in handy for each tablescape.  I found this adorable owl at Target in the dollar aisle even though he was $2.50.  LOL!  Isn't it pretty?

For my Halloween place settings, I just used black napkins displayed on my brown dishes and tied a satin orange ribbon around them for an inexpensive and pretty napkin ring.

Our little town that we live in has an adorable little Pumpkin Patch at a nearby church.  It's a fundraiser for their youth ministry and you can have your picture made in several little stations around the patch.  PB and I took the kids to get a pumpkin and I got a few great shots of them while picking out their pumpkin.

We got busy carving the pumpkins as soon as we got home with them and here's what the kids came up with for their designs this year.

You can tell that our doxie is an important part of my daughter's life.  She loves her soo much!  Do you see the little vampire fangs that she gave her?  We picked up a Halloween shirt for Polly at Dollar General and it has a bat on it that says "I bite".  It's really cute and she wore it while out trick or treating!

Happy be-lated Halloween to you all from our volleyball player and Boba Fett!

A Bathroom Throne

Well...the title to this post is a little misleading.  I know some people like to call their potty a throne but I'm not gonna ever write about that kind of throne.  The kind of throne I'm talking about is pretty and comfy and a wonderful place for our girl to sit while she does her nails.  No joke...our girl does her nails almost every. single. day!  So she is my Nail Painting Queen and this is her throne...

This little stool goes with an antique vanity that has been mine for over 25 years.  The vanity sits in my foyer now but the stool has sat in our girl's bathroom ever since we moved to this house last year.  My mom reupholstered it when I was 15 and this is how it has looked up until last week.

It matched my window valances in my room at the time and I have lived with this fabric on this stool ever since.  It has held up well but since it now lives in our girl's bathroom we decided it was time for a change.  I ripped off all the pink and white fabric and got out these supplies:

Since I cannot sew, I busted out the Stitch Witchery (Witchery Stitchery is what I call it!) and started measuring and ironing.  The fabric is leftover from my cousin's baby shower from the spring.  I bought it at JoAnn's.  This fabric is the cording on her baby bedding for her son's nursery.  It's adorable and the colors go well with our girl's bathroom.  After all the ironing was done, I got busy with PB's staple gun.

It is a little more tailored than I wanted but the gathers were going to be a problem since I cannot sew.  I guess you could say this is a version of a box-pleat.  I think it turned out pretty cute and it looks like it belongs in our girl's bathroom now.

She's 11 and has this awesome little spot in her bathroom to do her nails and in the coming months...her make-up, too.  It's her own little vanity built right into her bathroom.  (The sink and potty are in a separate space connected to this part of her bathroom.)  She's a very lucky girl to have this space!  It's one of the many things I loved about this house.  Please pretend you don't notice that her tub is blue!  Ha!

So, now her little bathroom throne is complete and she is completely happy with how it looks and so am I!  I don't know what I was waiting on to get this done.  I guess it was just more procrastination on my part.  Do you have any projects that you could be doing?

Scratch it off!

I am a procrastinator.  I admit it.  I have good reasons why I put things off, though.  Especially when it's projects that have to be done outside.  Rain definitely hurts me when I want to mark something off of my to do list.  Back in August I had made this list in an attempt to get these things done quickly.  I guess that taking two months to cross off two things isn't all that bad, is it?

I am able to scratch off a big one this time...paint PB's barn!  Yeah!  I had to pick out a color and just get to painting.  Rain held me off for a couple of days after I had finally picked out the color.  Then, it was ready to be primed and painted.  Before I get to my "after" picture I guess I should show you my "before" picture.

Beautiful, right?  It had definitely seen better days.  The rotten wood was getting worse every time it rained.  So this past spring PB and my stepdad replaced all the wooden siding and made two large doors for PB to ride his lawnmower into the barn.

It has sat like this for several months waiting for me to paint it.  But now it looks like this:

I think it looks so much better!  The turquoise door color is a fun pop of color for the back yard and I am planning on painting our front door this same color in the next week or so.  I am planning on putting some decorative planters on the little stoop area and maybe add some chairs out there to make it look more like a cottage than a barn.  PB is not so sure about my plans but he wasn't so sure about the turquoise either and now he thinks it looks great!

What do you think?  Should I add some decorative elements around the front door to make it look less like a storage room/barn?  How about some colorful adirondacks on either side?  I think the kids would love hanging out back here with their neighborhood friends!
